81% of members of dating sites lie about their height, weight, or age in their profiles.

 

The average couple who meets online waits 18.5 months to get married. Meeting offline the average couple waits 42 months.

 

Women are more likely to gain weight when they get married, while men are more likely to gain weight when they get divorced.

The state of Illinois passes an internet dating safety bill requiring dating sites to state if they do not conduct background checks.

 

77% of Americans reported going on 2 or more dates in the past year.

 

Revenue from the online dating industry in 2012 is expected to reach $2 billion in the US.

 

Revenue from the online dating industry grew on average 3.5% from 2007 to 2012.

 

There are 3,745 businesses related to dating in the United States that employ 7,085 people.

 

The Better Business Bureau received 549 inquiries about online dating services during the last 12-month period (Aug, 2012), compared to 316 for the previous 12-month period.

 

During this 12-month period (Aug, 2012), the BBB has received 50 complaints regarding online dating services, in contrast to the 24 received for the previous 12 month.

 

1 in 10 users on the internet have visited a dating site. With smartphones this increases to 2 in 10 users.

Australia

 

About 25 percent of Australians have tried online dating with 16 percent reporting to have found a long-term relationship.

Canada

 

STDs are on the rise. Chlamydia has increased 66 percent since 2000. Some health experts believe this corresponds to the rise of online dating.

 

71% of Canadians reported going on 2 or more dates in the past year.

 

1.2 million Canadians have used online dating. 80 percent were single.

 

The largest demographic of singles using online dating is between the ages of 23 and 29.

 

In November the average Canadian user of a Social Network site spent 7.9 hours using Social Media.

United Kingdom

 

52% of UK women said they offer to split the check on alternating dates. This is much higher than any other country.

 

In September 5.7 million people in the United Kingdom visited a dating site. This is a 22% increase over Sept. 2011.

 

The 55 plus age group is the fastest growing demographic and the 25 - 34 age group is the largest.

China

 

Shanghai fertility rate has dropped to just 0.79 children per woman. This is half the national average.

 

A June 1st matchmaking event in the Chinese capital saw 38,000 singles and parents attend.

 

By 2014 it is expected that the value of the China Dating Industry will double to 2.02 billion Yuan ($317 million USD). This is twice the value as in 2011.

 

As of 2010 there were 180 million singles in China which population was 1.3 billion.

Brazil

 

Brazil has about 62 million singles. Every month 5.6 million of them vist online dating sites.

64 percent of singles over age 55 said they would not date someone with health problems.

 

66% of men said that they would pay on the first date. 65% of women said they would offer to split but rather have the man pay.

 

20% of women said they would never send the first text.

 

51% of men said they would initiate a date after only a few texts. Only 29% of women would do the same.

 

60% of people said they are cautious about puting romantic posts on social media.

 

38% of people have a strict no-dating-related-posts policy.

 

81% of couples say they use technology to interact with each other throughout the day.

 

For men, the most picky daters in terms of what career their date is include engineers, analysts, lawyers, web developers, and bankers.

 

For women this includes marketers, business executives, analysts, lawyers, and teachers.

 

Women are attracted to wealth, but not men.

 

Your voice changes around people you're attracted to.

 

64% of American men report having facial hair.

 

44% of men say they feel more confident when they have facial hair.

 

80% of American women and 69% of women in the UK and Canada don't mind their men with facial hair. Other countries like Australia, France, Mexico and Denmark prefer clean-shaven men.

 

The goatee is the preferred form of facial hair while the soul patch is the least liked.

 

64% of singles said that their top resolution for 2013 is finding love.
